Hello, would like to congratulate you on setting up theis site, I am the great, great grandaughter of William and visited the church in May this year hoping to find the name of my grt grt grandfather on a wall but to my delight I found his picture. William was the first vicar of Henton and it is great to find his picture on this site. I would welcome any information on Willaim and his family. I haven't found his grave. Well done, regards Bel

Bel I hope this may be of some little help. I attach scan of p132 of "The Parish of Wookey - a New History" by Hasler and Luker (1997). This covers the finishing of Christ Church, Henton, built on the site of St Thomas', the long vanished chapel of ease of St Matthew, Wookey, and your gt gt g'father's time there. By way of explanation, Somerleaze is a large country house to the south of Wookey village (now a house but outbuildings split into flats) and Mellifont Abbey is the former parsonage house of Wookey, prperty of the sub-dean of Wells who was never resident. It was never an Abbey - this is a name like "Dunrovin". In 1861, when he was 43, he and his wife Ann were at Mellifont with Children: William (19) Charlotte (18) Mary (13) Ann (12) Louisa (9) Harry (7) Horace (6) Catherine (4) and three female servants Yours Selion

Hello, thanks very much. I have found some records in Taunton records office which have him ticked off in the vestry book for not keeping his church account records as they should be!! He lived in some fantastic houses and the scenery is beautiful in the area, William his son is my grt grt grandfather, so he was my 3 X grt grandfather. We can't wait to visit the area again, so much to do for the children and I can have a sneaky visit to the records office!! Thanks Bel
